Q. Is it possible to configure an EN-5200PX as NE2000 compatible so that I can use NE2000 driver on the EN-5200PX?

Answer: For the difference between PCI and ISA resource setting, we can not assure you can use NE2000 driver for EN-5200PX in any operating system. We only support an IO setting utility (8029INIT.EXE) under DOS environment, so you can fix the IO setting like traditional ISA adapter does. But you have to take care of the problem of resource conflict. For the IRQ setting, you have to configure it under the BIOS prompt of your mother board

Q. I have a new EN-5200PX PCI Ethernet LAN card. After installing in Windows 95, I get error message (in Device Manager) saying "device not working or drivers not installed correctly (code 10)". Windows recognizes the device, and the EN-5200PX is reported without problem using its SETUP program. I download the latest drivers from your FTP site(ftp.edimax.com.tw) and install again, I get a similar message "Drivers not working. Try installing other driver ...(code 2)". What do I have to do to have this card work under Windows 95?

Answer:
I cannot clarify what the problem is with your EN-5200PX. There are two possible conditions:

1. This problem may be caused by incorrect installation procedure. Please re-install your EN-5200PX Ethernet adapter with the following procedures:

1.1 Double-click Network icon in Control Panel folder.
Remove the EN-5200PX adapter (RTL8029 Ethernet Adapter).
DO NOT restart Windows 95.

1.2 Double-click System icon in Control Panel folder.
Click Device Manager tab.
Double-click Network item, remove the EN-5200PX adapter (RTL8029 Ethernet Adapter).
Double-click Unknown Devices item, remove PCI-Ethernet-Controller.

1.3 Shut down Windows 95.

1.4 Power off your PC.

1.5 Plug EN-5200PX PCI Ethernet adapter into one PCI slot.

1.6 Power on your PC, and start Windows 95.

1.7 Windows 95 should detect your EN-5200PX PCI Ethernet adapter, and ask you how to install driver. If Windows 95 detects one PCI Ethernet adapter other than EN-5200PX and does not show any instruction, there must be something wrong with your EN-5200P

1.8 Insert driver diskette to floppy diskette driver.

1.9 Select "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer", and specify the path name, for example
"A:\WIN95".

1.10 Windows 95 will complete the installation procedure, then restart computer.

1.11 If Windows 95 does not ask you to restart or reboot computer after the driver installation procedure, please restart your Windows 95 by yourself.

If the above installation procedures do not work, please contact with your dealer by advising the information of the size and date of your RTL8029.SYS driver in driver diskette.

2. There is one bug in our EN-5200PX oemsetup.INF file (before Oct 1, 1996); it will not overwrite the old driver with the newer. Even you install the new driver, the older one still exists in the disk, and the new driver is never copied into the disk.

Double-click Network item, remove the EN-5200PX adapter (RTL8029 Ethernet Adapter).

Q. How to use NE2000 driver for Solaris operating system with EN-5200PX PCI Ethernet adapter?

Answer:
1. Insert EN-5200PX PCI Ethernet adapter in your PC's slot.

2. Run "SETUP.EXE" to view the configuration of the EN-5200PX adapter in DOS environment. (Take a note of the IRQ and I/O address for later use).

3. Start the Solaris and log on to Solaris as superuser (root).

4. Change driver to Novell NE2000.

For example, when replacing a 3Com EtherLink III driver with a Novell NE2000 driver, do the following as root:
# mv /etc/hostname.elx0 /etc/hostname.nei0

Now perform a reconfiguration boot to make your changes take effect:
# touch /reconfigure

Edit /kernel/drv/nei.conf to change "ioaddr" and "intr" value specified in step 2.

NOTE: The IRQ and I/O address in nei.conf file should match the settings of the adapter configured in step 2.

5. Reboot the system
# halt

Q. I install the EN-5200PX on Windows 98 without any problem, but I doubt if the driver provided by Windows 98 is with bug! Am I right?

Answer:
1. Windows 98 DOES provide the driver for EN-5200PX (with RTL8029AS chip). Windows 98 will automatically detect the EN-5200PX and install its native driver for EN-5200PX after you plug the EN-5200PX into your PC. Anyway, the driver provided by Windows 98 is of bug. You should use the driver shipped with the adapter or downloaded from our FTP site (ftp.edimax.com.tw).
2. Update the Windows 98 driver of EN-5200PX. For more detailed information on updating driver, please refer to the following question.

Q. How to connect a Windows 95 PC with a Windows 98 PC?

Answer:
1. If you use a crossover cable (no hub) to connect two PCs, please make sure the crossover cable is fine. The pins 1,2,3,6 of one side of the crossover cable must connect to pins 3,6,1,2 of the other side. If you use a coaxial cable to connect, you must use TERMINATOR and T-CONNECTOR.

2. Run SETUP.EXE program to verify if the EN-5200PX adapter work properly. (The SETUP.EXE program must be run under pure DOS environment without loading network driver).

3. Open Devices Manager page in System icon (Start--> Settings--> Control Panel--> System). If you find a yellow "!" mark ahead of any device (especially the Network adapter), remove it! If all devices work properly (driver loaded) then click OK to exit.

4. Both of the WORKGROUPS in Network icon of Windows (Start--> Settings--> Control Panel--> Network--> Identification--> Workgroups) must be the same.

5. In Network icon of both PCs, add NetBEUI protocol, CLIENT FOR Microsoft NETWORK and enable SHARE FILES AND PRINTER WITH MICROSOFT NETWORK service.
